Pender County was created out of New Hanover County, NC in the late 1890s. All the information in this site pertains to New Hanover County. The Author has not made it to the 1890s yet in researching the Lewis families in this area. Stay tuned.

William Lewis, Jr. was the first known Lewis to settle in New Hanover County, North Carolina, arriving in 1736 in the Black River area that is now Pender County. William Lewis, Jr. was born in Northern Ireland around 1690 and he died in North Carolina in 1755.
