| The earliest "recorded" Lewis in Horry County is William Lewis, who purchased land in the area in 1734. This William Lewis is the brother of Solomon Lewis of Marion County, SC, and the father of Josiah Lewis of Bladen County, NC. William was born in Bertie Precinct, NC, and lived in Town Creek, Brunswick County, North Carolina in the 1720s and early 1730s. In the 1750s, other related and non-related Lewis families began settling in Horry County, and many of their descendents remain today. | |
