| Dawson and Rhoda (born in Brunswick County) lived
in Wilmington, NC the early part of their lives. Dawson worked
for the Tidewater Power Company repairing Gas Meters, while Rhoda
was a comptometer operator at the Belk Department store. Later,
they built the Camellia Court Motel in Belville, NC, but sold
it in a couple of years. Dawson was in the merchant marines in
the South Pacific during WW-II. After the war, he went to work
for Mr. Hobson Kirby in his department store in Shallotte, NC
(Brunswick County). Dawson built the first Red & White grocery
store in Shallotte, moved it twice, and built two large shopping
centers in the town. Both actively helped in establishing the
Cavalry Baptist Church in Shallotte and were active members of
the community. |
